My first Christmas in Xela

Last week, we traveled to Xela for the 2nd time. But this time it was for a celebration my parents called Christmas. A family time when people give presents, from what I understood. My uncle gave me a rocking chair, cool! So I won't spend hours in bed. I saw my grand parents, aunt, uncle and cousins. And I met more friends of my parents... how many friends do they have? It was so cold! It was the first time I had my jacket all day and had to sleep under many blankets. Now... pictures!

Discovering Guatemala: Destination Lake Atitlan

On Thursday, we left Antigua. Yeah another road trip! We took a mini bus and as soon as we left I fall asleep. We stopped for a while in a restaurant so I could drink my bottle and my parents had breakfast. So it should have been early! Then we hopped back into the bus and the road got really sinuous. We finally arrived at the Lake, wow que bonito! But our adventure wasn’t finished. After the train, plane, bus & car, I went on a boat! We crossed the Lake and I liked it for a while. But then we got wet and it was very bumpy, so I was happy when we arrived in San Pedro. The trip made me very hungry so we stopped in a bar to eat before finding a hotel. The rest of the day was quiet. In the evening, I met Juan, a friend of my dad. But then I got sick and vomited my bottle. It was the first it happened to me so I got scared. But then I just fall asleep, I was just too tired I think.

On Friday, we took a Tuk-tuk to go to another small town. We went to this house where they are cultivating natural herbs to cure. We had lunch with Juan before leaving town. We took another boat to cross the lake to go to another town named Santa Cruz. Then another Tuk-Tuk before arriving to Tony’s house. He’s a clown said my mum but I didn’t see his red nose. I would love to be a clown when I grow up! From his house, there is a beautiful view on the Lake. We had a quiet evening, everybody was tired. Yes traveling is very tiring but I’m getting used to.

On Saturday, we left the town to go to a beautiful hotel built on the rock. It was called La Casa Del Mundo (the house of the earth). Lots of stairs to climb but then we had an amazing view on the Lake and on the volcanoes. It was my dad’s birthday so staying in this hotel was the present from my mum. I loved it and was laughing all afternoon. We watched the sunset then my parents had dinner with candles.

On Sunday, we had a small walk up the stairs to see the panorama. Then it was already time to leave and after a short boat trip, we were back to Panajachel by midday. But my parents couldn’t find a shuttle before 4 pm. So we went for a hike to a natural reserve nearby and we saw monkeys! We went to a big waterfall, wow it was the first time I saw so much water! Then I fall asleep and just wake up to drink my bottle before we started our trip back to Antigua. The drive seemed to me longer than on Thursday, I was just so tired and eager to be home. Enough traveling, home sweet home!

A night in the mountains

On Wednesday afternoon, we left Antigua in what my parents call a pick-up to go to the mountains. It was my first trip in a pick-up and that was cool! You can feel the air and see the landscape. I’m only 3 month old but I had already traveled by car, train, plane, big bus, mini bus, chicken bus, tuck-tuck… did I forget something? Yes you have understood I’m a baby traveler! So if you want to offer me a present, buy me a bag pack and my first hiking shoes!

So we arrived to this house in the middle of the mountains with a lot of people and music. My parents call it a hotel. It is a place where you can sleep but it’s not your house. Oh and there was another baby! But younger than me, I tried to baby talk with him but he didn’t answer. Cool, I have a new friend! So now I have 3 friends. Emily from Xela. Cyndie who comes to visit the lady across the garden some time to time. She’s much older than me and talk talk talk. Well she’s a girl! And Jonathan who is younger than me but a boy, yeah!

We stayed in a small house on a tree. You have to climb a steep stair to get inside. You feel like a bird, surrounded by trees. It’s nice; you can hear the birds and see the leaves moving. I loved it! At night it was much colder but I slept on the bed with my mum so I was happy.

The next day, we enjoyed the sun and the beautiful view on the mountains. But then it was already time to go back home. Oh no I wanted to stay here longer! But we’ll come back soon promise? I want to play with my new friend Jonathan!

Today I turned 3 months! And I have been in Guatemala for a month. I have grown up so much that I’ll soon need new clothes.
